Sands, Streets & Sunsets –Our First Day in Jaisalmer.

Hello, I’m from Jaipur, Rajasthan.

It was February 2022 when a few friends and I first talked about planning a trip to Jaisalmer. But as usual — especially with trip plans — things didn’t go as expected.
What was supposed to be a spontaneous trip ended up taking a whole year to actually happen.

Finally, after endless delays, we made it happen in February 2023. We were a group of five friends, including me.
A day before the journey, we all got together and chalked out a rough plan for the trip.

In the morning, we all got ready, but we actually took the train in the evening, covering the 700 km journey from Jaipur to Jaisalmer in about 12 hours.

Arrival in "The Golden City"

As we finally entered Jaisalmer, famously known as “The Golden City” of India, the first thing that hit us was the warm golden glow — everywhere.
From the buildings to the roads, even the air carried a soft golden tint.

And guess what was the very first thing we all craved? Yep — “Chai” 😄
Priorities, right?

There weren't many trees or greenery around, but strangely, it didn’t feel empty or lifeless.
It felt like something different — the vibe, the atmosphere — it was epic.

The weather was pleasantly cool, and the blend of dusty streets and historical architecture gave the entire place a cinematic feel.

Exploring the Local Market

We were tired, sure — but our excitement had no limits.
After freshening up, we stepped out to explore the nearby local market.

The streets were filled with handicrafts, leather goods, embroidered clothes, and sparkling mirror-work souvenirs.
It honestly felt like we were walking inside a historical postcard.

We lost track of time, completely absorbed in the charm of Jaisalmer.

Golden Hour at Gadisar Lake

As the sun began to set, the city’s golden glow became even more magical.
Of course, nothing goes exactly as planned when you're with friends — everyone was doing their own thing, running on their own timelines.
No one seemed to care about the schedule (and honestly, that’s what made it fun).

Eventually, we made our way to Gadisar Lake, and trust me, the reflection of the old sandstone temples on the still water looked like a dream.

We sat by the lake and quietly watched the sunset — no phones, no social media, no distractions.
For once, nobody even checked Instagram notifications.

Ending Day 1

After a simple but satisfying dinner at a local spot, we returned to our hotel.
We gossiped for a while, laughed a lot, and finally — one by one — everyone crashed.
No one even bothered to change or get ready for bed. 😄

And just like that, our first day in Jaisalmer came to an end.

Day 1 was done, but the real thrill — forts, camels, and desert stars — was waiting for us. Stay tuned for Day 2!
